Description:
Would you like to get an enjoyable taste of Greek (and other) art and history? In Benaki museum, the largest cultural “family” of Athens, you will have the chance to enjoy a full visit of the prehistoric times until the contemporary visual creations, have a pleasant break at their sunny cafes and find unique gifts signed by various artists. On the museum’s mile with view to the National Gardens, the main building of the Museum houses a treasure of exhibits that illustrate Greek history through collections of antiquities, household and ecclesiastical vessels of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine times and heirlooms of the neo-hellenic course. The Museum also comprises a very rich selection of post-Byzantine icons and a very strong Folklore department. If you are interested in modern creations, the Benaki Museum at Pireos street – one of the most significant landmarks of the contemporary Greek architecture – hosts temporary exhibitions of important Greek and international artists and includes section of the contemporary architectural trends.
