The monastery built by Hosios Lavrentios (Lawrence) in 1670 following a dream he had. It was the meeting place of the leaders in the 1821 war of Independence. The frescoes were painted by Georgios Markou in 1735 and include 3,500 figoures. The monastery houses the miraculous icon of Panagia found by Hosios Lavrentios, the tomb and the sacred head of the saint. The Monastery is under the jurisdiction of the Holy Metropolis of Megara & Salamina.
