Monastery of Hosios Ephraim of Nea Makri

It was erected in 1950 on the ruins of the Byzantine Monastery of the Annunciation of the Theotokos after the discovery of the holy relics of Hosios Ephraim by a nun, Makaria, at the NE foot of Mt. Penteli. The Old Monastery was burned down by the Turks in 1426. Hosios Ephraim was held captive for eight months and was tortured to death on 5 May. The Monastery is under the jurisdiction of the Holy Metropolis of Kifissia, Amaroussio and Oropos.
