A three-aisled cross-shaped domed basilica dedicated to the Annunciation of Theotokos. It was built in the period 1842-1862 by architects Th. Hansen, D. Zezos, F. Boulanger and P. Kalkos. The mural icons inside the church are the work of S. Gallinas and A. Seitz and the decorations of K. Fanellis. The sculptural architectural elements are the work of G. Fitalis. The relics of the hieromartyr Patriarch Gregory V and Hagia Filothei were enshrined in the church. It is the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.
