Churches and Monasteries/Churches and Monasteries
The church was built in 1930 to commemorate Hagios Ioannis the Russian († 27 May) whose relics were translated during the population exchange from Prokopi of Asia Minor to Neo Prokopi in Euboea. It is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites of Orthodox Christianity. The incorruptible holy relics of Hagios Ioannis the Russian are kept in the Holy Shrine. Next to the church there is a 160-bed guest-house for the pilgrims. The church is under the jurisdiction of the Holy Metropolis of Chalkida.
