A basilica built in 1843, the work of architect L. Kaftantzoglou. The new church was founded in 1908 and is the biggest in the Balkans. The height of the central dome is 46 meters. Next to the church, there is the well, the place where the Apostle used to teach and where he was crucified. The Holy Skull and the tomb of the Apostle are found inside the church. The church houses the Holy head of the Apostle and His grave is located in the adjacent old church. It is the Cathedral church of the Holy Metropolis of Patras.
