Because of the marble, the temperature in the stadium during the summer can be very high. The best times to visit the stadium during the summer months are in the morning and late afternoon, when temperatures are lower. On warm days, we suggest you bring a bottle of water and sun protection. For your own safety during the winter months, extra care is advised on the steps, especially in wet weather.

What to expect

The Panathenaic Stadium offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. The entrance fee covers access to the stadium, an automatic audio guide tour of the site in 11 languages, entry to the vaulted passage, the opportunity to run on the track, information about the site's history, a visit to the permanent exhibition 'Memories from the Olympic Games: Posters and Torches from 1896 to Today' at the Atrium, and the chance to watch highlights of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games on two large screens. Additionally, visitors can interact with the multimedia touch-screen table just before reaching the Atrium.

Things to look out for

If you want an amazing photograph, you should climb to the upper tier of stand 21, from where you can capture the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Filopappos Hill, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Zappeion, the National Gardens, and Lycabettus Hill. Don't forget to take a photo on the podium against the backdrop of the stadium, just like Olympic medallists. Run around the stadium to feel the history! If you feel energetic, you can go for a run around the stadium, following in the footsteps of great athletes. Athletic shoes are necessary! Morning jogging is available from 07:30 to 09:00. When you enter the Panathenaic Stadium for your morning jog, you must fill in a declaration form accepting the safety regulations of the stadium.
