What to expect
The museum consists of two separate buildings, located 150 meters apart from each other. On Apostolou Pavlou Street, the war technology of ancient Greeks is illustrated through models, including the Trireme, the famous Athenian warship, catapults, siege towers, walls, armor, light weapons, and even cannons. Meanwhile, on Herakleidon Street, you can see a small collection of Automata from the Hellenistic period of Alexandria, Egypt. Automata are machines or devices that move or function without any obvious cause. A hyphenated functional model of the Antikythera Mechanism, the first analogue computer, is also on display, made from plexiglass so that one can see the mechanism itself.
Things to look out for
The museum closes at 18:00, but please arrange your visit no later than 17:00, as you will need at least 60 minutes to go through the entire exhibition. Please keep in mind that both buildings have two floors with stairways and no lifts or elevators. The walking distance between the two buildings is approximately two minutes.
